How to use Select-to-Speak on with the Respondus LockDown Browser Chromebook Extension

To use Select-to-Speak on Chromebook, the navigation controls must be disabled.

To disable the navigation controls:

  1. Open “Settings” and select “Accessibility”
  2. Select “Text-to-Speech”
  3. Enable “Select-to-Speak” if not already enabled
  4. Select “Select-to-Speak settings”
  5. Disable the “Navigation Controls” setting at the very bottom of the page

From this point, you can launch a LockDown Browser required exam, highlight text, and press the “Search + S” keyboard shortcut to read the text aloud.
