Moving Video Files from Blackboard to Kaltura

Instead of uploading video files directly to Blackboard (and using too much of your limited Blackboard course space!), use Kaltura. Once posted in a Blackboard course, the video will stream when played (students do not download anything!). In addition, closed captions and a transcript are automatically added to each video in Kaltura.

If you have videos in your Blackboard course that are NOT in Kaltura, follow the instructions below to download the videos from your course:

  1. Login to Blackboard and navigate to your course.

  2. On the Course Menu, scroll to the Control Panel and click Content Collection to expand that section.

  3. Click the CRN listed to access the content for your course in one location.

  4. Locate the video files in your Content Collection by sorting the list of items by file type. Do this by clicking the File Type column header.

  5. Select the video files by checking the box next to each. Click the Download Package button.

  6. A zip file with all the selected videos will be downloaded to your computer.

After downloading the video files, delete them from your Blackboard course. This is a two-step process:

  1. Locate the video in the content areas of your Blackboard. This is usually the Online Classroom but may be another area in your specific course. Click the pull-down button next to the video title and click Delete.

Next, delete the video file from the Content Collection. Do this by checking the box next to each video file in the Content Collection and clicking the Recycle button.

Now you are ready to upload your videos to Kaltura.

  1. Click the Tools button on the main Blackboard menu.

  2. Next, click the My Media button. This will open your Kaltura account.

Upload the videos using the Add New button and selecting Media Upload.

If you need further information and assistance, this tutorial is available. After the videos are uploaded to your Kaltura account, you can use them in your Blackboard courses. This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions.
