Unable to store institution ID to the registry, installation will not work correctly

When LockDown Browser installs, it must make some changes to the Windows registry, including storing the unique LockDown Browser institution ID. This error will occur when access to the registry is denied. This typically occurs because the user doing the install does not have admin rights. As a result, the registry is locked. To resolve the problem, a user with admin rights must log on to the computer and perform the LockDown Browser install.

This error commonly occurs when the user attempts to use “Run as administrator." In this case, the error can be resolved by logging in with administrator credentials and attempting the installation again.

In some rare cases, security software installed on the computer has been set up to intentionally write-protect the Windows Registry. If so, this must first be temporarily disabled in order for the installation to succeed.
