Secondary Camera Disconnected During a Respondus Exam
CRITICAL FIRST ACTION: If your secondary camera (phone/tablet) drops offline, DO NOT close LockDown Browser on your computer. If the system still lets you type, continue answering your exam questions. Respondus Monitor will automatically try to reconnect every 5 seconds.
Immediate Actions While Testing
- If your phone or tablet shows a loading icon or connection error, do not close or force-quit the mobile browser tab.
- If your device turned off or went into low-power mode, immediately plug it into a wall outlet charger.
- If your main computer screen displays a 'Reconnect' button or a new QR code, use your mobile device to refresh its page or scan the code to bridge the connection again.
Example of New QR Code: Do Not Scan
- If your issue is scanning the QR code mid-exam, close the browser app on the phone or tablet and try opening the link again.
- If your neither of the above resolve the issue, reboot the phone and then try scan the QR code again.
What to Do if the Computer Freezes
- If the main computer screen completely locks up, turns blank, or displays a critical error block, take a clear photo of the monitor using your phone.
- If you cannot click anything, hold down your computer's physical power button until it turns off. Turn it back on and immediately launch LockDown Browser again to try to resume your session.
Mandatory Post-Exam Protocols
- Keep your mobile browser active after submitting your test until you see a 'Session Complete' confirmation. This allows cached video segments to securely finish uploading.
- Send an email to your professor as soon as you exit the browser. Note the exact time the camera dropped and attach any photos you took of screen errors so they can account for the video flags.
