Opening PDFs in Google Chrome

To control the settings for opening PDFs with Google Chrome, follow these steps.

  1. Click the Chrome Settings button () in the upper-right corner of the browser, and then click Settings. The Settings page will open in a new tab.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced.
  3. In the Privacy and security section, click Content settings.

  1. Scroll all the way down to bottom to PDF Documents.

  1. Choose the desired setting for the switch Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome:
    • Select the switch to have PDFs open with your computer's default PDF opener (such as Adobe Reader).
    • Deselect the switch to have PDFs open within Google Chrome.
NOTE: PDFs have limited interactivity in Google Chrome; you may not be able to click links, view videos, or listen to sounds. To use all the interactive features of PDFs, open these files with Adobe Reader.
