Duo Security—Student Pre-Enrollment
UCA is using Duo for multi-factor authentication (MFA) to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts. Faculty, staff, and students are required to use MFA when accessing specific online services.
To pre-enroll, follow the steps outlined here through August 13, 2023. Beginning August 14, 2023, you will be required to authenticate using Duo when accessing specific online services. (View the video above to see the process of pre-enrollment.)
- You’ll receive an email from UCA Information Technology concerning Duo Enrollment for MFA.
- Open the email and scroll to the Pre-Enroll Now section.
- Click the “enroll now by going to...” link.
NOTE: If you are not already logged into your UCA account, you will be asked to log in before you can proceed to the next step.
- A new tab will open. Click the Start setup button.
- Specify the type of device you are enrolling in MFA. It is recommended to enroll a mobile phone. Click the Continue button.
- Enter the phone number of the mobile device. After the number is entered, a checkbox will appear asking you to confirm the entered number. Click Continue.
- At this point, you’ll need to specify the type of phone you are enrolling. Select iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone—smartphones capable of downloading and installing the Duo Mobile App. You may also select the Other (and cell phones) option for mobile phones that are not able to use the Duo Mobile App. Click Continue.
- Use your mobile device to download and install the Duo Mobile App. After installation, open the app and click Continue.
- Go back to the computer (or device used to start setup) and click I have Duo Mobile to display a QR Code.
- From the app on your phone, click Use a QR code and scan the QR code displayed on the computer. (You may need to allow the app to access your camera.)
- A green check mark will appear over the displayed QR code on the computer to show that the app has scanned the code correctly and your accounts (UCA and Duo) are linked.
- In the app, click Next to name the account and then click Practice Now to walk through the tutorial.
- After the app tutorial, you can select Allow Notifications if you’d like to verify your identity from the phone’s lock screen.
- Finally, click OK in the app and go back to your computer.
- On your computer, click Continue.
- On this screen, you’ll see your device and will select what happens when you log in. Scroll to the bottom and click Continue to Login.
- Next, click Send Me a Push and approve on your mobile phone.*
The successful enrollment page is displayed and there is nothing further that is required at this time.
NOTES:
- The process may differ slightly depending on the type of mobile device you enroll and the options you select.
- If your mobile phone cannot use the Duo Mobile app, click the Other (and cell phones) option when completing the pre-enrollment. This allows enrollment and authentication using SMS.
- *To have Duo text you a passcode click the Text me new code button after clicking Enter a Passcode.
- If you do not have a mobile device, you will need to request a physical hardware token. The second item listed in the Pre-Enroll Now section of the initial UCA email you received includes a link to request that option.
